What are the procedures I would never do as a dermatologist?

As a dermatologist with 15 years of experience in the field, I can say that it is beneficial to avoid certain trending treatments. In this article, I would like to briefly discuss these practices.

I do not recommend dermapen treatments for spot treatment. In particular, in individuals with darker skin, spots can become even darker. Similarly, I often see algae peels or green peel treatments for spot treatment, which can lighten the spots initially but may later turn into darker spots. It is important to emphasize that spot treatment requires the supervision of a dermatologist. Treatments should be tailored to the individual's spots and skin type. We do not apply the same treatment protocol to every individual in the clinic.

I do not use the alexandrite laser hair removal system on the facial area, as it has been scientifically proven to cause an increase and elongation of fine hairs.

Hydrapen application on the lips is among the procedures I would never undergo. This treatment is referred to as vacuum lip rejuvenation and lip vitamin application, and it is not sterile, potentially leading to asymmetry and infection in the lips.

I would never undergo collagen thread or collagen paper applications for wrinkles. These threads and papers are only used by plastic surgeons to support healing in large wounds. They may be beneficial for open wounds, but they cannot penetrate the deeper layers as they are not absorbed by the skin. They can only dissolve when in contact with heat and moisture from the skin. Moreover, there is no scientific basis for their use in wrinkle treatment.

In summary, your skin is valuable. Please think twice when undergoing treatments at places that are not run by qualified professionals or dermatology clinics. Let's not compromise our health in the pursuit of beauty.
