Who is not eligible for thread facelift?

Thread lifting procedures have become increasingly preferred with advancements in thread technologies. Particularly, semi-permanent collagen-stimulating threads, known as cog-PDO threads, are the most commonly chosen thread treatments in this category.

I must mention a common mistake I encounter with my clients regarding thread lifting. There is a misconception that one can wait until advanced age without any treatment for the skin, believing that only thread lifting will suffice. Additionally, I notice a belief that thread treatments are done primarily in older age. In reality, the ideal approach is to perform thread lifting before the skin quality declines significantly and before atrophy occurs. This is because when we apply threads to atrophic skin, the longevity of the procedure is shortened, leading to unsatisfactory results.

In cases of collagen tissue diseases, thread lifting should also be avoided. The most well-known among these are rheumatic diseases like systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Furthermore, it is not appropriate to perform the procedure during pregnancy. However, during breastfeeding, it may be applicable depending on the age and health condition of the baby.

Can thread lifting be performed on heavier faces? Yes, we can say so. By "heavier face," I am referring to clients who have full cheeks but loose skin structure. Sometimes, this patient group may also experience double chin issues. It is beneficial to combine thread lifting of the neck with lipolysis mesotherapy.

In summary, I do not recommend thread lifting for patients with compromised skin quality who are heading towards atrophy, meaning those whose skin has thinned like paper. In this group, fat injections and surgical facelifts tend to be more successful. If our client is hesitant about surgery, our priority should be to enhance skin quality through lasers, mesotherapy, or fillers, and then plan for thread lifting afterward.
